D’Angelo, born Michael Eugene Archer, is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer who rose to fame in the Nineties. He is known for his songwriting and production work, as well as his live performances and vocal range. His debut studio album, Brown Sugar (1995), peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified triple platinum. His follow-up album, Voodoo (2000), became a critical and commercial success and earned him his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
