Ice-T, born Tracy Marrow, is an American rapper, actor, songwriter, and record producer. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Ice-T moved to the Crenshaw district of Los Angeles when he was in the 8th grade and began his music career as a rapper in the early 1980s. He first rose to fame with the release of his song 6 in the Mornin’ in 1986, considered to be one of the pioneering songs of gangsta rap. His debut album, Rhyme Pays, was released in 1987 and was the first rap album to carry a Parental Advisory warning sticker placed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
He has gone on to become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, lending his voice to various video games and animated films, and starring in his own reality show, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He is also well known for his role as Detective Odafin Tutuola on the NBC police drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Ice-T has become one of the most popular and influential figures in hip-hop culture.
