Freeway, born Leslie Pridgen, is a Philadelphia rapper who rose to fame in 2003 with the release of his debut album Philadelphia Freeway. The record was a commercial success and helped launch Freeway’s career as one of the city’s most respected rappers. The album featured a star-studded line-up of producers and guest appearances by Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek, Peedi Crakk, and Young Chris. It’s lead single “What We Do”, featuring Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel, became a hit on mainstream radio and earned Freeway his first Grammy nomination. The success of this track further cemented him as one of the stars of the Roc-A-Fella Records dynasty. The album was critically acclaimed and also spawned the singles “Flipside”, and “Line ‘Em Up”.
