Craig Mack released his debut studio album, Project: Funk da World, today in 1994. It was Bad Boy Records’ second release, following the Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die by one week. The album reached gold status on February 22, 1995. The hit single “Flava In Ya Ear” led the way to a meteoric rise and lent heavily to the early success of the Bad Boy Records label.
The “Flava in Ya Ear” remix was not included on the album, but it quickly eclipsed the the original version as a fan favorite. It featured guest verses from the Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Rampage and LL Cool J. The album’s second single, “Get Down,” landed in the top 40 and also achieved gold status in April 1995.
Mack died on March 12, 2018, from heart failure at a hospital near his home at Walterboro, South Carolina.
