The Score was the second and final studio album by the hip-hop group The Fugees, released on February 13, 1996. It peaked at number one on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B Albums charts, selling over 6 million copies in the United States, and was certified six times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album features a wide range of samples and instrumentation, with many aspects of alternative hip-hop that had been unconventional up to that point. It also features a diverse range of lyrical themes, including Afrocentrism, socio-economic hardship, romance, and religion.
It featured the singles “Killing Me Softly”, “Ready or Not” and “No Woman, No Cry”, all of which were top 10 singles on the US Billboard Hot 100. The album eventually became the first ever hip-hop record to be certified as diamond, selling more than 10 million copies in the United States alone. The album marked a pinnacle of success for the group. It also earned an incredible three Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album, Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, and Best R&B Song.
